You may have considered attending the Big African event in Brisbane in 2022 when planning a holiday to Australia. For the last seven years, the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council have supported this event, which has drawn the attention of African communities throughout Australia. The country’s most prominent African live performances festival sets it apart from other comparable events.
Africa’s singing, dance, food, art, handicrafts, and clothing are all exhibited at the vibrantly coloured event, including activities for children and courses such as African drumming.
You can indulge in any of Uganda’s, Ghana’s, or Syria’s delectable culinary traditions. Explore the street markets, take part in a percussive workshop, and watch a shindig of African entertainment – music and dance – on the podium as the fiesta comes to a close, with the infectious upbeat tunes Afropop drawing crowds to the rink.
There will also be a Fashions on the Field event, including the most beautiful and exotic African attire and accessories and cash prizes (African lace & Ankara fabrics) for the classiest participants. A contestant’s outfit must have at least one African characteristic to be accepted.
Open-Mic sessions will also be held at the Junior Hubs, where young African Australians will have the opportunity to shine in music, act, read poetry, give spoken word recitals, and participate in interactive monologues.
