Polaris Lawyers has taken steps to strengthen its engagement with clients from multicultural communities through a cultural capability session that examined communication, cultural awareness and trust in legal services, according to Multicultural Australia.
The session focused on challenges that can make access to justice more difficult for people from multicultural backgrounds, including language barriers, unfamiliar legal systems, cultural differences, financial pressures and limited trust in institutions.
Key areas discussed during the session included the use of plain language, active listening, culturally safe communication and checking for understanding.
Participants also considered the importance of avoiding assumptions when working with clients and recognising how cultural backgrounds, migration experiences and levels of trust can influence the way people engage with legal services.
Multicultural Australia said the session reflected efforts by Polaris Lawyers to strengthen the way its team connects with and supports clients across different cultures, languages and life experiences.
The session also provided an opportunity to discuss how legal professionals can develop more inclusive and culturally responsive approaches when working with multicultural communities.
