ECCQ Multicultural Partners has released two new guides to help aged-care workers create more inclusive and culturally responsive environments where older people feel respected, included and connected.
The resources are the Inclusive Activities Guide and Care in Your Language: A Guide to Interpreting and Translation in Aged Care.
The Inclusive Activities Guide provides practical ideas for aged-care staff, lifestyle teams, diversional therapists and volunteers to develop meaningful activities that encourage connection, celebrate diversity and strengthen a sense of belonging among older people.
The second resource focuses on interpreting and translation in aged care. It provides guidance on accessing interpreting and translation services to support informed decision-making and uphold the rights of older people.
ECCQ Multicultural Partners said the resources were designed to provide practical support for aged-care workers seeking to make their services more inclusive.
The activities guide covers approaches that can help care teams develop activities that recognise and celebrate the diversity of older people and encourage participation.
The interpreting and translation guide addresses the importance of language support in aged-care settings, particularly when older people need to understand information and make informed decisions about their care.
The two guides are intended to help aged-care workers develop practices that are culturally safe and inclusive and ensure that language and cultural differences do not become barriers to participation or access to information.
ECCQ Multicultural Partners encouraged aged-care workers and organisations to explore the resources and use the practical guidance in their day-to-day work with older people from diverse backgrounds.
