The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) will bring women together for a free half-day workshop on October 10 at the Queensland Multicultural Centre in Kangaroo Point, focusing on media literacy during crises, parenting adolescents across cultures and personal safety and protective behaviours.
The workshop, titled ‘Prepared, Not Afraid’, is designed to provide women with practical information and tools to help them navigate everyday challenges while balancing different cultures, experiences and expectations.
The programme will feature three expert-led sessions covering media literacy during times of crisis, parenting adolescents across cultures, and personal safety and protective behaviours.
According to ECCQ, the workshop will provide participants with practical tools that can be used in everyday life, along with an opportunity to ask questions and connect with other women in the community.
The event is open to all women and is being offered free of charge.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, October 10, with registration from 9am and the programme beginning at 10am. It will conclude with a light lunch from 1pm.
The venue is the Queensland Multicultural Centre, Kangaroo Point.
The workshop is aimed at helping participants feel more prepared and informed when dealing with issues affecting families and communities, particularly where cultural differences and changing circumstances can add complexity to everyday decision-making.
ECCQ said spaces are limited and encouraged interested participants to register in advance.
The initiative brings together practical discussions on information awareness, family life and personal safety, with an emphasis on helping women build confidence and strengthen connections within the community.
